If you got all excited when you saw the title like I did, just a heads up, the cyclotron is NOT the same thing as the carnival ride that spins around real fast and you stick to the carpet covered walls. However, if you were walking around the campus of Michigan State University yesterday, you may have gotten caught up in FRIB Frenzy. Students at MSU got together to spark campus interest in upgrading the school’s cyclotron in a new Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (hence, FRIB). If you didn’t get in on the isotope making, you may have at least seen some UGP made t-shirts like the ones below kicking around campus. MSU hopes the project will bring economic stimulus to the state and continued research notoriety for the University. For more info on the event, check out the State News article here. For more info on radioactive isotopes….i dunno…try….wikipedia?

UPDATE! MSU got the funding, so much more cyclotronning is to come!
